Cookie Policy

Last updated: May 2026

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make sites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide aggregated information to site owners. We also use comparable browser storage technologies (such as localStorage) for some of the same purposes; for clarity we refer to all of these as "cookies" in this policy.

2. How We Use Cookies

PwGenie uses cookies to:

  • Remember your preferences (such as dark/light mode)
  • Measure aggregated, anonymous traffic so we can improve the site
  • Display advertising — personalized only if you allow it, otherwise non-personalized

Password generation happens entirely in your browser. We do not store, transmit, or log any password you generate.

3. Types of Cookies We Use

3.1 Essential

Required for the site to function. These cannot be disabled because the site would not work properly without them.

  • Theme preference — stores your light/dark choice (localStorage, persistent)

3.2 Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to collect aggregated, non-personally-identifiable information about how the site is used: pages visited, approximate location, device/browser type, traffic sources. We use this only to understand and improve the site.

Provider: Google LLC (Google Analytics 4)
Purpose: Aggregated site usage analytics
Duration: Up to 2 years
Additional opt-out: Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on

3.3 Advertising

We use Google AdSense to fund the site. AdSense respects Google Consent Mode v2:

  • If you allow advertising cookies, AdSense may show personalized ads based on signals about your interests.
  • If you reject advertising cookies, AdSense may still show non-personalized ads. These do not use cookies for targeting and are based only on the page content and your approximate (country-level) location.

Provider: Google LLC (AdSense)
Purpose: Display advertising and fund the free service
Duration: Up to 2 years
Additional controls: Google Ad Settings

4. Consent Banner (EEA, UK, Switzerland)

Visitors located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland will see a consent banner provided by Google's Consent Management Platform on their first visit. The banner offers three choices:

  • Consent — analytics and personalized ads are enabled.
  • Do not consent — analytics and ad personalization are disabled; only non-personalized ads are shown.
  • Manage options — opens a dialog where you can choose individual purposes and vendors.

Outside these regions no consent banner is shown by default; analytics and personalized ads are enabled unless you opt out at the browser or vendor level (see section 5).

You can reopen the consent dialog at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser, or via the controls Google's CMP provides on its banner.

5. Managing Your Preferences

  • Browser settings — every modern browser lets you view, delete, or block cookies for specific sites.
  • Vendor-level opt-out — Google Analytics Opt-out, Google Ad Settings.

6. Third Parties

The third-party cookies we set are listed in section 3 (Google Analytics, Google AdSense). These providers may collect information about your activity across other sites where their tags are deployed. See their respective privacy policies: Google Privacy Policy.

7. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will reflect changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes affecting how we use cookies will trigger the consent banner again so you can review your choices.
